Damper Repair and Installation
Dampers need to be seal tightly when not in use. A strong, tight seal prevents the loss of valuable heat from your home up through the chimney and into the atmosphere. You may find that drafty rooms may be cause by an improperly sealed damper, a common cause of drafty conditions in the rooms they are situated.
Our technicians can repair leaky dampers providing all the parts of the existing damper are present, and the damper is not rusted, corroded or warped.
If the damper can not be repaired we may be able to install a top sealing Lyemance damper on top of your chimney. However, certain conditions must exist. There must be ceramic tile flue liner inside the chimney and it must extend all the way to the top of the chimney. Usually homes built after 1930 will have this liner. This damper is controlled by a cable that is mounted to one of the side walls inside of the fireplace.
We also recommend where applicable the installation of a chimney cap over the Lyemance damper. This will improve the performance of this damper during all weather conditions.
